My Passion

What are my passions?  Lemon meringue pie, Pecan candy, My wife's black beans, My mother's Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.  Visting historical places. Learning about new cultures. The History channel.  Rollercoasters,  NFL football, Watching my daughter experience the world around her. Laughing with Sharron and seeing her smile.

Enough is Enough!

Okay, I’VE HAD IT!!!!

I’m tired of blogging and disappearing for what seems to be “blog years” What’s with that!?!?. I get emails from people who say they came across my blog and they just love my work and I’m thinking “What, that old stuff?”

It’s embarrassing.

It makes me look like I just don’t care. Well, I do care. Quite a lot, actually. Truthfully have quite a bit of work I’ve not blogged yet and a few new things coming up. So, my apologies to all who view my blog. I’ve committed myself to blogging more often. I actually have some great ideas for a new motivational blog as well. You’ll have to check back to see what the fuss is about.

Mark

Nashville Motivational Speaker :: 2009 Hallmark Inst. of Photography Graduation

I was invited to speak to the Hallmark Institute of Photography Class of 2009 at their recent graduation as a representative of the Alumni family. I had so much fun and it was an amazing day. I spoke to the class of 2009 at the beginning of their journey and it was such an honor to speak to them at the end of their Hallmark experience. They are a class of amazingly talented photographers and their work speaks for itself. I’m also glad to be an honorary member of their class and to call many of them friend. Just want to share a few words that I shared with them:

Because the client has a need, we have a job to do.
Because the client has a choice, we must be the better choice.
Because the client has sensibilities, we must be considerate.
Because the client has an urgency, we must be quick.
Because the client is unique, we must be flexible.
Because the client has high expectations, we must excel.
Because the client has influence, we have the hope of new clients
Because of the client we exist.

I shared with them that quitters never win and winners never quit so decide for yourself what you are made of when things get tough. You can have a “Plan B” for every endeavor but there is no Plan B for passion, there is no Plan B for heart and there is no Plan B for desire. You either have it or you don’t. You either want this or you don’t. You’ve invested a lot in yourself and the return on that investment is up to you. You are all winners and I know you will do well.

Congratulations again! Well done.

July 7, 2009 - 11:58 PM Juanita Hong - WHOA! I had NO IDEA that you took a photo of me while I was up there! It was an honor to meet you Mark, you are definitely an inspiration to a lot of us! (By the way, I look so calm in this picture...haha)

August 12, 2009 - 7:53 PM Andrei - Mark, I am a student of the '09-'10 class, and I'm moving my entire life to Turners Falls in less than a week. I just saw your incredible speech and poem from your graduation in '08. I wanted to ask you a few questions about Hallmark, so I would have more of an idea of what to expect and how to achieve it. But most of my questions come down to this: were you ever afraid that your best would not be good enough? Thank you, Andrei

Nashville Senior Photographer :: A Smile So Bright

Photographing Nashville Seniors is fun!

Brittany is a senior…….in 2011. She wanted some pictures for her 16th birthday and her mom asked me to photograph her. We had a great time. She’s a lovely young lady, respectful, happy, kind and courteous with a smile so bright you’d better have some shades handy. You can tell within a minute she’s a christian. She’s also plays piano, violin and guitar. She’s a straight A student. Most importantly… she’s modest about it.

We spent the better part of the day in downtown Nashville capturing some great images for her sweet 16th and I enjoyed every minute of being there with her, her younger brother and her parents. Here are some of the images we created.

Nashville Wedding Photographer :: Christa & Jim

Christa and Jim got married and the ceremony was just as lovely as I anticipated. On the grounds of the Old Natchez Country Club Christa and Jim became one. It was such a lovely ceremony and I had a great time. The bridesmaids were so much fun to be around and the groomsmen were too. I’m happy to have been apart of such a wonderful day and to be allowed to capture these moments for them…well, this is why I do it isn’t it?

Congratulations Christa and Jim. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed capturing them for you.

Nashville Portrait Photography :: She’s a gift

We had four unsuccessful attempts at starting our family and I knew it was hurting her – the prospect of not having a child (and having only my mug to look at for the rest of her life). So when Rachel was given to us I know Sharron felt complete. When the midwife gave Rachel to Sharron she could not stop saying “its a girl, we have a girl!” Everyday I’ll see Sharron looking at Rachel in awe of her. “She’s so wonderful,” she says. She’s just so wonderful.” (She really is, y’all”)

Sharron hasn’t stop marveling since.

Someone once told me that I should marry someone who I would want to raise my child. I cannot think of anyone better than Sharron. Rachel absolutely loves her and I love seeing them together. They have so much fun. Every now and again I get some face time with Rachel but for the most part, its Mommy! Each time they go to playgroup or storyhour at the library or when she’s chasing Rachel around the house and reading to her or singing to her, their relationship gets stronger. Rachel has the perfect example of what it means to be a lady, a mother and a christian.

I love Sharron and I don’t know how I would be without her. I’m still trying to figure out how I made it all those years without her without killing myself, but I’m glad she’s in my life now. My plans for a mother’s day gift didn’t materialize like I had hoped but at least I can publicly proclaim that I’M MARRIED TO THE MOST WONDERFUL WOMAN ON EARTH.

She’s a wonderful mother to Rachel, a beautiful wife to me and gift to both of us. Happy mother’s day Sharron Yvonne Denman (aka Baby Boo) We love you!

Here are some images of Sharron from a time before “us”, as a mother and as the beautiful woman she is.

The first lady in my life.

I think about my mother often. She’s been gone from me almost two years now and I still wish I could pick up a phone and just say hi. I never called home as much as I would love to now but that just how it is I suppose. My mother was a teacher and she taught me a lot of things. Too many to recount here. Suffice it to say that she was the rock that served as the foundation of my development. I remember her reading to me Green Eggs and Ham over and over with her finger underscoring each word and then she would ask me to read it back to her and I would. I enjoyed reading to my mother. I always looked forward to hearing her say “Very good, Mark” Every child wants to please their mother and I certainly was no different.

She was a very soft-hearted, kind and soft-spoken person and I NEVER saw her mistreat anyone. Her entire life was an example that I can celebrate. However it wasn’t her life that I remember most now. Its how she handled the prospect of death that I remember. She battled cancer off and on for 22 years. She fought it until it finally caught up with her. When it did, she never wallowed or cried and asked “why me?”. She bravely faced it and if she was ever in pain it never showed. My mother didn’t know fear. It just wasn’t a part of her make-up. Her last lesson to me was a lesson in courage that I try to practice everyday. Its not always easy and sometimes I don’t know how she did it. With God’s help I will learn it because its such a wonderful trait to past on the Rachel.

I miss her tremendously.

Here is a slideshow of snapshot photos I gathered of my mother. I put this together as a tribute to her memory.

Happy Mother’s Day.
