A Smile So Bright | Nashville Senior Photography

Brittany is a senior…….in 2011. She wanted some pictures for her 16th birthday and her mom asked me to photograph her. We had a great time. She’s a lovely young lady, respectful, happy, kind and courteous with a smile so bright you’d better have some shades handy. You can tell within a minute she’s a christian. She’s also plays piano, violin and guitar. She’s a straight A student. Most importantly… she’s modest about it.

We spent the better part of the day capturing some great images for her sweet 16th and I enjoyed every minute of being there with her, her younger brother and her parents. Here are some of the images we created.

Christa & Jim | Nashville Wedding Photography

Christa and Jim got married and the ceremony was just as lovely as I anticipated. On the grounds of the Old Natchez Country Club Christa and Jim became one. It was such a lovely ceremony and I had a great time. The bridesmaids were so much fun to be around and the groomsmen were too. I’m happy to have been apart of such a wonderful day and to be allowed to capture these moments for them…well, this is why I do it isn’t it?

Congratulations Christa and Jim. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed capturing them for you.

She’s a gift | Nashville Portrait Photography

We had four unsuccessful attempts at starting our family and I knew it was hurting her - the prospect of not having a child (and having only my mug to look at for the rest of her life). So when Rachel was given to us I know Sharron felt complete. When the midwife gave Rachel to Sharron she could not stop saying “its a girl, we have a girl!” Everyday I’ll see Sharron looking at Rachel in awe of her. “She’s so wonderful,” she says. She’s just so wonderful.” (She really is, y’all”)

Sharron hasn’t stop marveling since.

Someone once told me that I should marry someone who I would want to raise my child. I cannot think of anyone better than Sharron. Rachel absolutely loves her and I love seeing them together. They have so much fun. Every now and again I get some face time with Rachel but for the most part, its Mommy! Each time they go to playgroup or storyhour at the library or when she’s chasing Rachel around the house and reading to her or singing to her, their relationship gets stronger. Rachel has the perfect example of what it means to be a lady, a mother and a christian.

I love Sharron and I don’t know how I would be without her. I’m still trying to figure out how I made it all those years without her without killing myself, but I’m glad she’s in my life now. My plans for a mother’s day gift didn’t materialize like I had hoped but at least I can publicly proclaim that I’M MARRIED TO THE MOST WONDERFUL WOMAN ON EARTH.

She’s a wonderful mother to Rachel, a beautiful wife to me and gift to both of us. Happy mother’s day Sharron Yvonne Denman (aka Baby Boo) We love you!

Here are some images of Sharron from a time before “us”, as a mother and as the beautiful woman she is.

The first lady in my life.

I think about my mother often. She’s been gone from me almost two years now and I still wish I could pick up a phone and just say hi. I never called home as much as I would love to now but that just how it is I suppose. My mother was a teacher and she taught me a lot of things. Too many to recount here. Suffice it to say that she was the rock that served as the foundation of my development. I remember her reading to me Green Eggs and Ham over and over with her finger underscoring each word and then she would ask me to read it back to her and I would. I enjoyed reading to my mother. I always looked forward to hearing her say “Very good, Mark” Every child wants to please their mother and I certainly was no different.

She was a very soft-hearted, kind and soft-spoken person and I NEVER saw her mistreat anyone. Her entire life was an example that I can celebrate. However it wasn’t her life that I remember most now. Its how she handled the prospect of death that I remember. She battled cancer off and on for 22 years. She fought it until it finally caught up with her. When it did, she never wallowed or cried and asked “why me?”. She bravely faced it and if she was ever in pain it never showed. My mother didn’t know fear. It just wasn’t a part of her make-up. Her last lesson to me was a lesson in courage that I try to practice everyday. Its not always easy and sometimes I don’t know how she did it. With God’s help I will learn it because its such a wonderful trait to past on the Rachel.

I miss her tremendously.

Here is a slideshow of snapshot photos I gathered of my mother. I put this together as a tribute to her memory.

Happy Mother’s Day.

June 16, 2009 - 9:29 PM Jacquie Van Tichelt - I have made slide shows before. Of people I don't really know that well, of their weddings. I am always crying by the time I get done. It must have been very emotional to do this. It is beautiful Mark. :-)

She made it or Sharron and I made it (however you might look at it.) Rachel is 1 yr old today. Nothing big scheduled. She had her party last week. She’s been so much fun to get to know and I know year two will be no less exciting. Just wanted to share a few from the first year. Each image was taken for every month she’s been with us. (First image is Day 1)

Rainbow Makers | Nashville Wedding Photography

Sometimes I worry that I’ll never witness another wedding that tops the wedding I just shot.  Tina and Marcus quickly put those concerns to rest.  They are rainbow makers.

That’s just what they do.

Warm and sincere, beautiful and cool, friendly, fun and inviting, they paint a rainbow over every person they meet.  You see I had not met Tina and Marcus prior to their rehearsal but you would not have known it by how I was welcomed.  They both are very genuine people and you get a real sense that they never meet a stranger.  Their love for each other was equally apparent.   Incredible, beautiful and favored is how Marcus described Tina at the end of rehearsal.  He gathered everyone around and thanked us all for being there…for being a part of their special day.  He spoke of the obstacles they had to overcome and how God had blessed them tremendously.  As his words became labored and emotion began to take over, there was Tina with her arms around him.  Holding him together.  One heartbeat at a time.

At their wedding, Marcus sang a beautiful song titled Rainbow Maker as Tina waited at the entrance and you could feel the love and emotion.  It was coming from a secret place that, until then, was only known to Tina and Marcus.  On this day, he let everyone know.  He loved her!

As the day ended and the guests were leaving, Tina thanked me for being a part of their wedding.  I thought to myself, “It’s not often I’m blessed to be in the presence of two people endowed with such beautiful spirits- to be surrounded and enveloped in their array of love, happiness, devotion and unity.”

Thank YOU Tina and Marcus for having ME.

You are rainbow makers.   That’s just what you do.  So I hope and pray these images paint a rainbow of beautiful memories…for you.

She’s not so small in my hands anymore :-( | Nashville Children Photography

My little girl will be 1 yr old in a few weeks.  There is so much about Rachel that I just don’t want to change.  Yet when I look back over the year, there is so much that has changed already.

She’s crawling (at record speeds)
She’s standing on her own.
She’s exploring.
She’s laughing.
She’s very independent.
She’s know’s what she wants and screams when she’s denied.

I suppose you can look at those things and say “those are good things.”  Perhaps.  I just know that I’m going to miss her crawling onto my chest and falling asleep.  I’m going to miss hearing her giggling as I toss her into the air.  I’m going to miss marching around the house with her in my arms singing “The Grand ole Duke of York”  I’m going to miss her going into Sharron’s drawers and pulling everything out onto the floor and then crawl away (That is funny!!)  Right under my nose she has grown.  There is a knot in my stomach that wants things to slow down just a bit.  Let me enjoy the little Rachel that I’ve known.  Yea its great to see her develop and experience new things and its fun to witness the development of her personality-getting a glimpse into what kind of young lady she might be.  All those things are great to see and I’m excited about the endless possibilities for her except it just reminds me…

She’s not so small in my hands anymore :-(

April 3, 2009 - 4:17 AM Paula Morris - Hey Mark, Your daughter is beautiful!! I am surprised, it's been a year. Time flies!!! I totally understand how you feel. Our girls are 13 now. Where did the time go???? Maury and I realized that with Life comes changes so we just pray and do the best we can. Before you know it she will be a teenager and off to college (If the Lord delays his coming). The important thing is that you teach her about God and his love. And that you love her with an never ending heart. Be Blessed, Paula

April 4, 2009 - 11:29 AM Michelle Wallace - Your reflection before the beautiful picture appears speaks of how you have enjoyed every stage of your daughters life to date. So many children grow up without their parents noticing the very fact that you have made this special tribute for your lovely girl will help to preserve the precious memory for a very long while to come. You are all sooooo blessed, Rachel is lovely Sharron and Mark lots of luv. Michelle

April 6, 2009 - 8:53 AM Ben and Anita McGhee - We are so blessed to have you all in our family. Thanks so much for sharing your love, thoughts, pictures, friendship and especially Rachel. We certainly know how girls grow up! (MY, MY) We learned late the importance of teaching our children to surrender to Jesus because of the great love he has for us. We can't emphasize enough how important this is since Jesus will come to get his children. We want to be ready and we want all our friends and family to be ready. Happy Birthday Rachel! We love you.

April 6, 2009 - 9:52 AM Onada - Oh my she's so beautiful! Happy birthday in advance to her!

April 6, 2009 - 11:55 AM Vareta - Rachel is so lovely. I can't believe how much she has grown even in the last two months - she's so precious. By the way I love your work, it just gets better every time.

April 6, 2009 - 12:36 PM Robertoverton05@comcast.net - Mark, As you are already doing, treasure every moment. They do grow so quickly. Before you know it they will be adults themselves. I know, we have two children 24 and 22 now. I find myself looking at their photos when they were so little, so innocent and that lump that is in your stomach is the lump that is in my throat. We have blessed with a grandson, he is now 19 months old. I find myself wanting to slow down if not stop time. For I know now from experience, how quickly this time will be over, and yet, it seems to be going at lights speed. You and I have an advantage, we are photographers, so we are always looking for the opportunity to photograph. we have that opportunity everyday, in that we can photograph our loved ones. So my friend, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot and then shoot some more. And then when you think you are finished, still, shoot some more. I have learned from experience that the only regret is not that you have too many photos, but that you don't have enough. So I encourage you to wear as may cameras out as possible. They are much cheaper then the precious moment lost because we did not photograph them. Robert

April 6, 2009 - 4:11 PM Wilhelmina - Hi there Sharron & Mark blessings. Cant believe the time has flown by that quickly. Sending a BIG HUG & lots of xxxxxxxxxx for a darling niece HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY X So BEAUTIFUL!!!

April 6, 2009 - 6:26 PM Maggie Yurachek - Hi Mark, it's been a while. I found this and read it and was so touched by what you said about your daughter. I don't have any children, but what you said practically brought tears to my eyes! I wish you the best in your career! (If you don't remember who I am I was the one who hung out with Sarah Cort all the time). Also, beautiful pictures of Rachel. Please be in touch. I have booked a couple of weddings for this year, but I am doing rather generic photography to supplement my income. Keep me posted on what you are doing. Maggie

April 29, 2009 - 2:01 PM Lionel Scott - Mark, Not only are you blossoming into a fantastic photographer, but a poet as well. Rachel is definitely a reflection of you and Sharron. And oh, I see Momma Denman in her as well. God Bless! -Lionel
